It is no exaggeration to say that Japan's cities lost their sense of direction following the bursting of the economic bubble. It became hard to decide what should be left alone, what should be destroyed and what should be built anew.
Situated in the centre of Yokohama, BankART 1929, Tokyo Gedai University and ZAIM have made use of historical buildings and portside facilities to try and inject new life into the area. With this background in mind, this project has invited some of the most dynamic artists and architects to try and reignite dormant buildings in the area.
"Landmark Project 2" is putting the focus on Velotaxi, and Geijutsu Fudosan, two groups that produce promotional videos for historical buildings. On February 19th there will be a kick-off party with lectures, and Yukinori Yanagi will talk about his art project involving the regeneration of the industrial island of Inujima in the Seto Inland Sea.
