Crafts and Kôgei Creations - Living National Treasures Exhibition

Seiko House Hall
Finished
Seiko House Hall will be hosting the "Craftsmanship and Creation of Kôgei - Living National Treasures Exhibition." This exhibition, held every spring, brings together works by important intangible cultural property holders (Living National Treasures) from five fields of crafts, and marks its 11th anniversary.
"Living National Treasure" is the nickname given to those who are "holders of important intangible cultural properties," and are people who have honed their craft skills over a long period of time, developed their own unique style, and become leaders in their field.
This time, works by 40 artists will be exhibited in five craft fields: ceramics, dyeing and weaving, lacquerware, metalwork, and wood and bamboo work.
The theme of this exhibition is "Memories of Flowers." Since ancient times, Japanese people have had a special attachment to flowers, associating them with the changing of the seasons and turning points in life. In keeping with this sentiment, each artist expresses the flowers they have in mind in concrete form, or as flowers blooming in their memories. While each artist uses different compositions, the works embody the "spirit of Japanese crafts," in which artists engage in dialogue with the composition to embody the forms of beauty they envision.
Don't miss this opportunity to see these exquisite works that combine advanced techniques passed down through the ages with modern sensibilities.
