Tottori Prefectural Museum
Finished
The Tottori Prefectural Museum opened in October 1972 as the only comprehensive museum of nature, humanities, and fine arts in the prefecture. Its predecessor was the Tottori Prefectural Science Museum, which was established in 1949 in the "Ninpukaku" building in the ruins of Tottori Castle, and became the Tottori Prefectural Science Museum in 1954, dealing with biology, geology, archaeology, and folklore.

Then, in 1972, the museum accepted the materials of the Ikeda family of the Tottori domain that had been stored by the Tottori Prefectural Library, added a new art section, and was newly established as a general museum at its current location. When the museum first opened, it already had a collection of about 50,000 items, but after 50 years of activities, the number has now grown to about 200,000 items.

In this exhibition, all the materials that have been collected and stored over the past half century, which are the property of every citizen of the prefecture, will be displayed as much as possible to introduce the 50 years of material collection and research that have been the foundation of the museum.
