Since 1967, the Agency for Cultural Affairs has been supporting the "Overseas Study Program for Emerging Artists (Zaiken)," which provides training for young artists at relevant overseas institutions to nurture human resources who will support the future of the Japanese art world. In the field of fine arts, the “Domani: The Art of Tomorrow" exhibition was launched in 1998 as an opportunity to present the results of the program and will be held for the 25th time in 2022. As a post-program of the "Overseas Training Program," the exhibition has been an opportunity for the artists sent abroad to present their work to the Japanese art scene.

Although the 24th exhibition could not be held in Tokyo due to COVID-19, it was held at five venues nationwide, taking advantage of the ZAIKEN network, and an archive of the 1st through 23rd exhibitions, "DOMANI, The Art of Tomorrow 1998-2021," was published.

This exhibition marks the 25th anniversary of Domani and includes three artists whose careers have not been fully featured in the "Domani" exhibition, six fresh artists who have completed their studies in relatively recent years, and the first and second artists to participate in the "Domani” exhibition. In addition, for the first time the National Art Center, Tokyo will invite Akino Kondo to participate in the exhibition for the second time. The exhibition will be held in Tokyo on the 100th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake that devastated the Tokyo metropolitan area in 1923 and will consider the next generation of human resource development and the state of the art world after the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of "fluctuating/shifting ground, institutions and values.
