Fantasista Utamaro
This exhibition is an arrangement of artwork from LuckyFES, an outdoor music festival held at Hitachi Seaside Park on July 23-24, 2022.

Fantasista Utamaro is a Japanese artist living and working in Brooklyn, USA, and his diverse activities are based on the theme of infinite proliferation. His creativity transcends the boundaries of genres and national borders and is highly acclaimed not only in Japan and the United States but also in the United Kingdom and France. The "Shark Whale" objet d'art displayed at the entrance of the festival was scaled down to 1/20th its original size and made in a limited edition of 5 pieces for this exhibition. Visitors to the exhibition can view various artworks developed for the festival, as well as a making-of video. The "Shark Whale" itself can be viewed at the entrance of the Hotel Crystal Palace Choujuso in Hitachinaka City.

Utamaro had two things in mind when getting involved in the festival. The first is to examine the history of Hitachi Seaside Park and restore the energy of the land, and the second is to ask participants about the possibilities of post-capitalism. To liberate the spirit of modern people who feel themselves to be slaves to the digital system, it is necessary to regain a relationship with the sacred. The Lucky Mandala, the theme of the exhibition, was conceived for this purpose. Its mantra is 'Accept and Love All. The slogan for the festival is "Luck = Capital," a tribute to the words of Joseph Beuys, one of the most famous German artists of the 20th century, "Kunst = Kapital."
