Masami Yamamoto
Gallery OUT of PLACE will host Masami Yamamoto's solo exhibition “Earthen Skin” from late November through January, showcasing recent works centred around new pieces. Having long recorded human traces etched into vintage clothing through her ceramic works, Yamamoto experienced a shift in perspective following last year's Noto Peninsula earthquake. Her home and studio in Kanazawa suffered severe shaking, and the extensive damage to her representative works became the catalyst for change. Though ceramic works appear complete after firing, she began questioning what completion truly signifies. Engaging with this query, she contemplates natural phenomena capable of influencing pieces once deemed finished. ‘Ha’ signifies the “break” in the traditional Japanese musical structure of ‘jo-ha-kyū’, indicating she has entered a new phase.
