The works collected by American collectors of Japanese art, Etsuko and Joe Price (Price Foundation) have been added to the Museum’s collection. This exhibition features works by Itō Jakuchū (1716-1800) and Maruyama Ōkyo (1733-95) who vividly colored the Kyoto art world in the 18th century as well as paintings by Sakai Hōitsu (1761-1828) who led the Edo Rimpa school. The exhibition will be held in two parts. The Edo period was a time of great prosperity in the history of Japanese painting with these prominent painters competing against each other.

Part II: February 21 (Tue) – March 26 (Sun), 2023 Kyoto Art World and Edo Rimpa
