This solo exhibition features Yusuke Iguchi, a contemporary artist living in Saitama Prefecture, as one of the projects commemorating the 70th anniversary of the merger of Nyuzen Town.
Born in Toronto, Canada in 1985, Iguchi is a contemporary artist who mainly develops temporary works (installations) in exhibition spaces. He studied architecture at Musashino Art University and sculpture at the Musashino Art University Graduate School. He emerged early in his career with outdoor installations, winning the Grand Prize at the MMM Minato Media Museum in 2011 and the Encouragement Prize at the Rokko Meets Art Art 2012 Grand Prize the following year. His specialty is to create large-scale works in which the viewer participates by walking and climbing inside the work or moving the work itself, and he has presented many works in which the viewer's actions are connected to the memory of the place even after the work is gone.
For this exhibition, Iguchi will create a new work focusing on energy at the Power Plant Museum, a former hydroelectric power plant. Like the “Kaleido-Scape" series, one of his most popular experiential artworks, the giant work measures approximately 12 meters in length and 6 meters in height and moves slowly as the viewer climbs aboard and pedals. The sensation of a huge object moving with only a little energy from the viewer's legs, as well as the view that appears in the viewer's eyes, is sure to be a refreshing experience.
