Henri Cartier-Bresson
In August 2004, the news of Henri Cartier-Bresson's death at the age of 95 shot around the world. Together with Robert Kappa, he was one of the founders of the photographers' group "Magnum", and was the pioneer of the style of journalistic photography in which he would capture historical moments with a compact Leica. He established his distinctive photographic aesthetic with his publication "The Decisive Moment" (its English title), which had a huge influence on photographers everywhere and he also did much to elevate photography to the level of art. Deeply disliking revealing himself to people, this great photographer avoided talking to people about himself or his work until the last years of his life, when he started to open up. This documentary film is composed of invaluable interviews with Cartier-Bresson at 93 years old, his close friend photographer Elliott Erwitt, and playwright Arthur Miller, who died last year.
