This event has ended.

The memorable first exhibition of the Takahashi Collections at the newly opened location in Shirokane starts with Tomoko Konoike's works on January 19, 2008.

"I cannot forget the moment when my first artwork became someone else's possession. I worked hard on my painting, and now the title mine is gone; it's someone else's. It was the very moment when I first recognized the raison d'etre of an artist. It is not based on my sentimental attachment to my piece of work after many severe hours I spent on it, but the realization that I have something immeasurable in me. Thanks to a stranger (a collector who possesses my artwork), I was freed from a closed world, took a deep breath of fresh morning air, and came up with this new recognition."

So says Konoike. Based on this assumption, Konoike tries to satisfy her irresistible desire for recapturing her own works that are already in others' hands during this exhibition period. She also creates a dynamic installation, or rather, her own presence, in the brand new space.

Opening Reception: January 19th (Sat) 18:00-21:00

From 2008-01-19 To 2008-03-01
