This event has ended.

The history of Western antique prints starts around the time when Gutenberg invented the printing press and book publishing began. In addition to quality prints categorized as fine art that were made by artists such as Rembrandt and William Blake, there were many antique prints that were created to spread scientific, technological and academic information using text accompanied by graphics. Since the images’ purpose is to communicate knowledge, there is a universality liberated from the artist style and egoism of fine art pieces. Since the material are the original natural sciences, technology in which human warmth can still be sensed and the faithful depiction of a world in the past, they are also used often in Western interior design as art to produce gentle spaces. On the other hand, since they were created hundreds of years ago, there are also surprising images among even those that were created as serious academic works.

Western antique prints from various genres for novices and print-lovers alike will be on display and sale at this exhibition.
