"Posters of the Parisian Sky: Tracing the Work of Raymond Savignac" Exhibition
Logos Gallery
This event has ended.
Raymond Savignac was a poster artist with a simple style that overflows with humor, and who is particularly popular in Japan. According to Savignac himself, the logic behind his poster making was "applying traditional Gallic esprit and humor to simple compositions and striking colors."
Neologisms like "visual gag" and "visual scandal" were coined to describe and assess his work.
On display are about 80 works, from his debut poster Mon Savon, produced in the 1940s, through his golden age in the 50s and 60s and the difficult 70s, right up until his renaissance period in the 80s and 90s and pieces made during his last years in his beloved port town of Trouville in provincial Normandy. In addition, mini posters, monographs and postcards are available for purchase.
