Miki Mochizuka "Ki"
This event has ended.
Misako & Rosen is pleased to announce our second exhibition with painter Miki Mochizuka. Mochizuka, who was born in 1974 and presently lives and works in Shizuoka. In 1999, she received a BA in painting at the Tokoha Gakuen Junior College in 1999.
This 2nd solo exhibition takes the sound "ki" as a point of departure. The abstract titles of Mochizuka’s past works including "Nike" and "Mizukumoshiroki" play important roles upon speaking of her works. Mochizuka's distinct visual language is achieved by the layering of the images that derive from her own memories. While these images carry concrete themes, they ultimately appear on her canvas in a form of abstraction.
Mochizuka also deals with "another-landscape". She compares the act of depicting another landscape within a painting to a puzzle. For her, colors layered repeatedly on a canvas to form a landscape are reminiscent of a puzzle whose disjointed pieces can compose an image only when they are all put together.
In addition to a series of paintings, this exhibition introduces Mochizuka's large-scale sculpture.
