Kenshichi Heshiki Exhibition
This event has ended.
Kenshichi Heshiki was born in Okinawa in 1948. Attracted to photography while still in high school, he studied cinematography at the Tokyo College of Photography after graduating.
Heshiki has dedicated his life to photographing the local customs and culture of Okinawa, chronicling the rise of the professional career women, the lives of men who work on sugarcane plantations and fisheries, and more.
In 2007, Heshiki published a monograph of his past work entitled "Goat Lung: Okinawa 1968-2005", and tragically passed away in October this year. This is Heshiki's first proper show of his work in Tokyo, showcasing more than 100 original prints, including vintage photos, taken in and around the year 1972, when control of Okinawa returned to the Japanese mainland.
