Finished

Artists

Kyoji Takubo
The first comprehensive solo exhibition in Tokyo devoted to Kyoji Takubo (1949—), an artist known for his Chapel of Apple restoration project. After initially working in such genres as performance art and objet d’art, Takubo from 1987 devoted more than ten years to the restoration of a small chapel in Normandy. Today, he is engaged in a long-term restoration project at Kotohira-gu Shrine in Shikoku that shows the varied character of contemporary artistic endeavor. His career has unfolded within a struggle between a movement outward from the site, involving relocation and border transgression, and creation that respects the scenery within the site and gives play to the structure of the existing culture there.
