“The Friendships of Collection Artists”
This event has ended.
Highly creative artists are often fiercely unique and independent, but this does not mean they spend their lives in solitude. Through friendships they come to respect, cooperate, confront, and sometimes criticize each other, significantly influencing one another’s art in the process. The third 2013 Yokohama Museum of Art Collection Exhibition takes a fresh look at how friendships have influenced the artists with works in the collection. Divided into six segments, it goes beyond examinations of artistic schools and groups to explore episodes of art and life shaped by relationships transcending genres, weaving together stories of friendships formed through love, experiences far away from shared home cities, and other circumstances.
The Photography Room will also display around 60 works illuminating 20th century photography history by the Italian photographer and researcher Lorenzo Merlo from the Lorenzo Merlo Collection.
