Taro Okamoto
This exhibition displays for the first time 54 original illustrations made by Taro Okamoto to accompany the serialized publication of Ango Sakaguchi’s novel “Kayo” in the Tokyo Shimbun. If we think of the work of Okamoto we naturally associate him with iconic works such as the “Tower of the Sun” and “The Myth of Tomorrow”, but in fact he produced also a wide range of illustrations for novels and other publications too. After leaving in army in June 1946 Okamoto returned to his art practice in November of the same year. Directly following this he was commissioned to illustrate the serialized “Kayo” novel over 58 editions of the Tokyo Shimbun. This exhibition presents 54 plates from the total of these 58.
