Shisei Kuwabara
It is said that a population of approximately 4,00,000 people live along the coast of the Yatsushiro Sea. But the incident of Methylmercury poisoning in Minamata half a century ago cost many of these people their lives. At the current record the number of people harmed in this incident is documented as 3000, 2000 of which have died as a result, but it is estimated that the unofficial number of victims could be as many as 60,000. Shisei Kuwabara has continued to photograph this region since the 1960s and presents a collection of 50 black and white photographs alongside a new publication of his recent works.
