Shinsuke Tsutsui Exhibition

Mizuma Art Gallery - Ichigaya Tamachi

This event has ended.

This exhibition features Tsutsui’s original illustrations for the serialized story ‘Seikon [Stigmata]’ which ran for 8 months in the Asahi Shimbun from July 2012. Although rendered on paper measuring only 12.3x16.5cm, these works are built up through an intricate and lengthy process in which motifs of insects are condensed into abstract forms in a unique interpretation of the words written by his father Yasutaka Tsutsui. Yet these images reach beyond mere accompaniments, to form independent ‘artworks’, which unveil Tsutsui’s own approach to artistic expression: drawing inspiration from the currents of art history to produce his abstract creations. And in the unfurling the meanings of different stories spun upon the words of his father, one might touch upon limitless possibilities of the human imagination.
