Akiko Kimura
Croatian blue refers to the distinctive, highly transparent indigo color of the sea and sky found in the southern Balkan nation of Croatia facing a long stretch of coast on the Adriatic sea. Globe-trotting photographer Akiko Kimura was drawn to the country after hearing this term. Her “i” series, which also includes photographs taken in Iceland and New Zealand, is inspired by the sense of fractured continuity she feels between herself and the nature that surrounds her as she photographs it. Some 30 photographs taken in Croatia and Japan as she pursued a “Japanese blue” are on display. Additionally, handmade Croatian wooden toys, ornaments, and other accessories are on sale.
