In 2011 leading photographer Kyouichi Tsuzuki created a stir with the exhibition “Night Alleys: Ueno to Asakusa Underground Cruise”, featuring a cosmos of underground culture, from members of the transgender community to death metal, road fashion, gay bars and love dolls. In his latest publication “Single Senior Style” (Chikumashobo December 2013) he further challenges our perceptions and prejudices, this time through a close up upon single senior citizens and their way of life. This exhibition selects artists from the 60s avant garde movements who continue their artistic pursuits even now in their senior years, from an action performer who has turned their garden into a theater, to the popular manga artist of “Garo” magazine, to the director of a cinema who continues to make remix films, the 9 lively characters who appear here reassert the vitality of life even in our latter years, and offer up a bold array of work filled with energy.
