The 4th “Tensai 108”
This event has ended.
The arts and crafts of Japan and its creative culture stem from the customs and beliefs of the various regions of the archipelago, passed down through generations, while at the same time demonstrating a pliancy and continuous evolution as it has incorporated new influences from overseas to form a hybrid culture.
In 21st century Japan there is a distinct division between religion and art, craft and performance for example, each being viewed as independent from the other, but the richness of living is perhaps to be found elsewhere other than the efficiency and functionalism so emphasized by the West. In order to raise a re-appreciation of Japanese culture and transmit its appeal to the world Tensai 108 calls for a new reflection on the history and essence of this culture and points towards its future development.
