Yukinori Yanagi
The fifth exhibition in in the BankART Studio NYK series presents the work of Yukinori Yanagi, a young New York-based artist known for humorous and powerful installations such as the Venice Biennale award-winning “The World Flag Ant Farm.” His international activities continue apace with displays at art fairs around the world, mentions in major American art magazines, and the inclusion of his works in the collections of MoMA and other important art museums. In 2008 he realized a project to convert the ruins of a former copper refinery on the island of Inujima into an art museum, and has since continued to work on Setouchi islands, turning an abandoned school on Momoshima into an art center. His “Wandering Position” series tracing the movements of a single ant in crayon is a symbol of his own ever-changing activity. Come appreciate Yanagi’s 30 years of creative wanderings in this gallery-spanning show featuring his ant farm series, enormous concept models for Inujima, and a new, large-scale Godzilla-themed work.
