Matsumoto’s photographs of the Kita-Azumi region of Nagano Prefecture allude to snowy landscapes, ski sites, mountain villages, and other scenes of tourism or travel. More than evoking a sense of déjà vu through nostalgia and wanderlust, however, these photographs are like documentary images from space exploration, offering up sights that seem like something you’ve never seen before.
