The Feast of the Goddesses: Selections from the Hara Museum Collection
This event has ended.
Rembrandt left behind a portrait of his wife Saskia modeled after Flora, the goddess of fertility and flowers. The contemporary artist Yasumasa Morimura walks in the footsteps of art history and artists such as Rembrandt by “inserting” himself into their works. Meanwhile, Mika Ninagawa’s photo series “Plant a Tree”, exhibited for the first time at Hara Museum Arc (Gunma), captures in what seems like obsession on Ninagawa’s part brilliant moments of cherry blossoms fluttering down over the Meguro River in the spring of 2010.
This exhibition brings together goddess imagery portrayed in a variety of ways in the works of female artists at the forefront of contemporary art. These “goddesses” have created works brimming with vitality and beauty symbolized by flowers. Experience their prolific, colorful worlds blooming in profusion on an intoxicating spring day.
