This event has ended.

20 works from Maiko Haruki’s latest series “vision | noisiv” will be on exhibit.
In her previous series “A certain composition of eyes” (2014), Haruki interrogates lines of sight directed at subjects by reconstructing them on two-dimensional planes in a manner that reconsiders the act of “looking.” Building on this previous body of work, for the current series Haruki layers one landscape over another on photographic paper so as to create a space that does not exist in reality.
Coined by Haruki, the term “noisiv” is an inversion of the word “vision,” which refers to both the state of being able to see, as well as something that is seen. In the work appearing here, she has selected two locations as the subject: Ireland’s townscapes and natural scenery; exhibition views inside Tokyo’s Space Museum TeNQ. Although the two places are divided in her works, they somehow manage to overlap.
A new photo book titled “_etc.” (Akaaka Art Publishing Inc.) will be released in conjunction with this exhibition. Explore Haruki’s reflections on seeing, and how she negotiates the various implications of vision.
