Goro Murayama
Playing with the notion of “kusokora (collage memes)” as its main subject, this exhibition presents Goro Murayama’s digital photo collages and video collage works.
Murayama lived in Vienna for two years as a trainee on the overseas study program for upcoming artists organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Japan, returning back to Japan in September this year. This exhibition is a sequel to “Fantasy in Prison” (Chateu 2F — Koganei Art Spot, Tokyo / 2015), an exhibition held before he left for Europe, and refers to the assassination of the Russian ambassador to Turkey. Ironically, the affair took place in the gallery where the photo exhibition “Russia through Turks’ Eyes” was on view. Here viewers are invited to witness Murayama’s new series unfold in a context different to that of the artist’s signature woven fabric paintings.
