Artists

Ken Kitano
Ken Kitano is known for works with clear concepts that visualize the state of the world through accumulations of light and time. His works include “Flow and Fusion,” a series of black and white long-exposure photographs capturing chaotic Tokyo around the time of the Bubble; “Our Face,” a series of single photographs developed with multiple exposures in the dark room that show layered meta-portraits of dozens of people from cultures around the world; and “One Day,” a color series of long-exposure shots taken throughout one day at places around the world, including historically important sites in Japan. This exhibition introduces Kitano’s “Gathering Light” project for which he installed cameras in multiple spots across Japan and took ultra-long exposure photographs spanning six months, from winter to summer to winter, thereby capturing the trajectory of the sun. Works from other series are also presented.
