Artists

Tsunero Kokuryo
Tsunero Kokuryo (1919–1999) painted many works romantically portraying dunes and sandy hills. A member of the Japan Art Academy, he was an important figure in postwar Western-style painting in Japan. This exhibition marking the 100th anniversary of Kokuryo’s birth revisits his works with paintings from museum collections across Japan, introducing his early, late, and most important works expressing the beauty and mystery of sandy landscapes.
