‘Redoubt’ is a new film by American artist Matthew Barney known for his films such as ‘Cremaster Cycle’, a series of five feature-length films, and ‘River of Fundament’, a visual opera combining the documentation of three parts of live acts.

‘Redoubt’ consists of six parts. Slightly retelling the ancient myth of Diana and Actaeon, this 134-minute film depicts the relationship between humans and the natural world. In the winter landscape of Sawtooth Mountains, Idaho where the artist was brought up, the film features the mythological narrative with contemporary dance. In ‘Redoubt’, the characters’ movements are formalized into choreographies that echo and foreshadow their encounters with wildlife.
