Shiseido Gallery, which has a long history of introducing female artists, will have a group show by female photographers pursuing creative expression. Anneke Hymmen & Kumi Hiroi and reconstruct images from advertising; Tokuko Ushioda expresses the contexts and relationships of books; Mari Katayama’s diverse works include self-portraits with sewn objects attached to her body; Maiko Haruki’s installations question the act of seeing; Mayumi Hosukura’s work redefines“what was once supposed to be commonly accepted.”The shared theme of this show is “borders.”Through the works of these photographers with different styles, from different backgrounds, and at different stages in their lives and careers, we can catch glimpses of similarity and difference in the worlds we see.
