Tadayuki Shimada, born in Edogawa-ku, Tokyo in 1946, is a sculptor who has been active in Japan and abroad since the 1970s. From the mid-1970s, his creative activities focused on sand as a collection of dots, and he pursued and developed the multiple meanings of the material. Later, around 1990, he shifted his focus to metal, using aluminum as the main material for his work, which can be described as dog armor. Currently, he is developing a series titled Pliny’s Animals.
