Tsutsumu: Traditional Japanese Packaging

Meguro Museum of Art
Finished
The designer Hideyuki Oka left an enormous footprint in the world of design related to “tsutsumu” (wrapping) as he continued to study traditional Japanese packaging and collect items from the dawn of design in Japan. This exhibition introduces the feelings Japanese have given to the deed of “tsutsumu” and the beauty of packaging techniques through Oka’s collection held at Meguro Museum of Art, a collection that portrays how Oka viewed Japanese packaging with natural materials such as wood, bamboo, straw, clay, and paper.
