This event has ended.

Marking the 64th anniversary this year, the 2021 World Press Photo Contest drew entries from around the world with a total of 74,470 images submitted by 4,315 photographers from 130 countries and regions. This exhibition showcases about 150 prize-winning photographs chosen through a rigorous selection process. 45 photographers from 28 countries were selected as winners in eight categories: Contemporary Issues, General News, Environment, Nature, Long-Term Projects, Spot News and Portraits. Each category (except Long-Term Projects) is divided into “Singles (a single photo)” and “Stories (containing multiple photographs)”. The World Press Photo of the Year and the World Press Photo Story of the Year are selected among the winners, who won the first, second or third prize in either of the contest categories. The jury of the 2021 Photo Contest selected a photograph by Mads Nissen (Denmark, Politiken / Panos Pictures) The First Embrace as the World Press Photo of the Year. This inspirational photograph captures the bonds and warmth of human beings fighting against COVID-19, giving great encouragement to many people.
