In cooperation with the Olympic Foundation for Culture and Heritage, Ginza Graphic Gallery will stage an exhibition entitled “Olympic Language: Exploring the Look of the Games.”
The Olympic Games are the world’s greatest sports event, so the show spills out beyond the stadium. In fact, the whole of the host city is involved in the celebration. To pull all this together, a whole team of graphic designers is there to create the Look of the Games.
Originally held at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, from May 10, 2018, to March 17, 2019, this exhibition has traveled to Japan. The exhibition focuses on five editions of the Games that are noteworthy for design: Tokyo 1964, Mexico 1968, Munich 1972, Lillehammer 1994, and Athens 2004. It explores how the Look provides a sense of coherence and an overall common identity for each Games through official Olympic properties such as the emblems, the posters, the pictograms, the torches, and much more.
