Gallery Out of Place Tokyo will move from 3331 Arts Chiyoda Room 207 on April 30, 2007. For its last exhibition in this space, it presents eight artists who will remain involved with its work in Nara in the future.
Hogalee’s work is based on the theme of “Tokyo Girl,”straddling the worlds of contemporary art and comics. In recent years, he has been creating huge wall paintings in public spaces using masking tape. Satoshi Uchiyama’s work is based on the repetition and accumulation of small daily actions, such as rolling paper tape or pouring paint onto an air mat, which transform into art. After moving to Europe on her own, Hanako Itsukage has been based in Germany for many years, and has been creating abstract paintings with a sense of isolation and transparency. Born and raised in Sakurai, Nara, Koju Takahashi works with plaster and pigments to create abstract paintings with delicate textures and bold compositions. Based in the Kansai area, Fuyuji creates paintings that seem to flow with music, making free use of the universal forms and vivid colors of the natural world. Born and raised on the sacred mountain of Omine (Nara Pref.), Masato Akai’s sculptures are made from Yoshino cedar and driftwood from the Yoshino River. Patrick Taberna is a French photographer who has been photographing his familiy and children for 20 years. The essence of his work would be a love for small and pure things. Bernard Plossu is a French photographer who captures on photographic paper the expressions of people and landscapes he encounters during his travels, with a somewhat languid and unique texture.
