This event has ended.

This solo exhibition will feature the work of Kenta Kobayashi, who has collaborated with Dunhill and Louis Vuitton and created campaign images for them. In this exhibition, Kobayashi aims to extend his expression from his series of work that is synonymous with the use of Photoshop’s “smudge” tool.

The theme of this exhibition is “smudge,” a typical process in Kobayashi’s image-making. The “smudge” tool is one of the basic tools used in Photoshop to correct color and contour and is generally used to touch up fashion photographs. However, Kobayashi uses it excessively, treating the photograph like a palette of paints to transform the image.

For Kobayashi, smudge strokes are the traces of physicality that straddle the boundary between photography and painting, and they are also symbols of universal emotions that penetrate time and space. This exhibition explores the current state of the smudge series, which has expanded beyond two-dimensional works to three-dimensional works.
