This event has ended.

In her first solo exhibition at the gallery in 2019, “Wild Bird Forest 1F,” Erika Kobayashi presented work that focused on the more subtle memories of nuclear energy, especially in the aftermath of the accident at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. This is the second solo exhibition for Kobayashi, a highly acclaimed novelist and manga artist, who was motivated by Anne Frank’s words, “My desire is to live on even after death” which motivated Erika Kobayashi to create this work, and her own father, who was born in 1929, the same year as Anne Frank, and was a Sherlockian.

Kobayashi has been highly acclaimed for her works inspired by invisible objects, time, history, family, memories, and traces of places, and has presented them through various media such as novels, manga, drawings, photographs, videos, and installations. In 2021, she will publish a picture book, “Watashi wa Shinanai Onna no Ko” (I Am a Girl Who Will Never Die), inspired by the words of Anne Frank, published by Iwasaki Shoten, and a novel, “His Last Bow” (Kodansha), about the life and death of her own father. This exhibition will present a range of drawings and photographic work that introduces the range of Erika Kobayashi’s activities in 2021.
