Yozo Hamaguchi “Trajectory of the Gaze”

Kichijoji Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Yozo Hamaguchi
Yozo Hamaguchi (1909–2000) was a self-taught artist whose mezzotints created delicate gradations from white to black. Later, he established the field of color mezzotinting using layers of red, blue, yellow, and black. Fruit, butterflies, lady bugs, and other small and familiar subjects frequently appear in his works, which present interplays of light and dark. This exhibition focuses on works portraying living things. We can observe Hamaguchi’s affectionate gaze on these creatures and his interest in forms.
