This event has ended.

Born in 1982, Mariko Enomoto grew up in an environment where she was surrounded by pictures, partly due to the influence of her great-grandfather who was a Japanese-style painter.

In recent years, Enomoto has been creating artwork for various genres such as book and magazine illustrations, theater visuals, CD jackets, etc. She has also created illustrations for Cho Nam Joo’s novella “Born in 1982, Kim Ji Young” (Chikuma Shobo), Rui Yoshimoto’s novella “Performance” (Shinchosha), and Mie Kawakami’s novella “Yellow House” (Yomiuri Shimbun). (Yomiuri Shimbun), and other outstanding works.

Enomoto has been mainly focusing on acrylic paintings of people with their faces covered by plants, animals, and buildings, and his paintings are both gorgeous and surreal, giving viewers a variety of impressions. The background of the mumbo-jumbo, such as a forest or a sky full of light, as if to express her anxiety, and the various objects that cover her face. The layers of background, people, and objects expand the imagination and invite viewers into the world of Enomoto’s stories.

In this exhibition, Enomoto will show about 15 new works, including a large work (F80), which she created as a record of the changes in her performance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
