This event has ended.

The exhibition will mainly feature new collage work by interior designer and artist, Yumi Matsushita. The title of this exhibition, “Toe Hatae” is derived from the Japanese word “tenfold, twentyfold,” meaning “many layers of overlapping.” Collage is one of the classical methods of painting in which different materials, such as newspaper and magazine clippings, are composed, it has been said that collage “has made it possible to eliminate the boundary between painting and sculpture.” Recently, Yumi Matsushita has been using a traditional style to aesthetically express the scenery and sense of discomfort in her surroundings, while structurally expressing her collages as layered objects by layering acrylic sheets to compose images. Each overlapping layer is an independent plane, and the thickness of the acrylic as a “thing” reveals its aspect as a three-dimensional work. The sense of floating and the reflection of light and shadow created by the transparency of acrylic are also incorporated as part of the collage material.
