Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art
Museum in The Kanto: others area
Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art, located at the foot of verdant Nihondaira, was opened in April of 1986 in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the inauguration of the Shizuoka Prefectural Assembly. As "the museum open to everybody", we have held lectures, workshops, symposiums and concerts, to say nothing of permanent collections and loan exhibitions. Closer to the 15th anniversary, more than 3,000,000 people have visited the museum.
The Rodin Wing in which Rodin's sculptures including "The Gates of Hell", the 6th cast and six figures of "The Burghers of Calais", and European sculptures after the 19th century are displayed, was opened in March of 1994. Visitors can appreciate the exhibits, walking around in a bright huge space.
We are aiming to enrich our collection, hold exhibitions and promote educational activities further also in future.
