The Calligraphy Works of Jiun in the Kôkiji Collection
This event has ended.
Jiun(1718-1804) was a monk, famous for his high virtue, active in Kyoto and Osaka during the latter half of the Edo period. The year of 2004 marks the bicentenary commemoration of his parting. At locations closely related to his person, substantial exhibitions have already been held, yet the Tokyo National Museum has organized a feature exhibition entirely focused on the collection of Kôkiji. Jiun was an inspirational figure who stood out and was respected for his individualist activities within the decadent and waning society of Edo Buddhism. This exhibition may offer an opportunity to approach and familiarize with the person that was Jiun as well as his legacy.
