Max Klinger: "Eve and the Future", "A Life", "A Love"
This event has ended.
At National Museum Of Western Art, Tokyo
Media: Prints
Max Klinger (1857-1920) was a multi-faceted artist in turn-of-the-century Germany. Though he also worked on paintings and sculptures, it was his printmaking in particular which elevated him to fame. Klinger produced 450 prints during his lifetime, of which 14 comprising a series are considered his representative works. 11 of those 14 are currently in the NWMA’s collection.
This exhibition will feature "Eve and the Future", "A Life", and "A Love" from the collection. They all take up a woman as its motif, and hint towards the presence of a social criticism within his artistry. Exposing the untruth concealed within the social norms of gender roles, the questions posed in these prints could perhaps be considered relevant to this day.
