Hisayuki Mogami
Hisayuki Mogami was born in Yokosuka (Kanagawa Prefecture) in 1936. At 24, he graduated as a sculptor from Tokyo Art University and started presenting his work simultaneously at private showcases, solo and group exhibitions.
He has never changed his choice of material. Although he sometimes makes use of stone or stainless steel, his material of choice would definitely be wood. In 1981 he received the 12th Nakahara Teijiro Prize for his piece "Wherever you go, I'll be there". It was to become the first in a whole series of prizes. In 2003, the "Hisayuki Mogami Exhibition" was organized, and in 2004 he received the so-called 'Shijuhoushou', one of Japan's most prestigious awards. This retrospective features 24 of his best wooden works that have continued to mesmerize people for the past 40 years.
At Musashino Arts University, Hall 12 , Basement exhibition room.
