This event has ended.
Bauhaus to Contemporary Art - From the DaimlerChrysler Art Collection.
The exhibition is a worldwide touring exhibition that introduces a number of works of art selected from DaimlerChrysler AG (Germany)’s collection of some 1,300 pieces of contemporary art. The exhibition was previously shown in the United States and South Africa, and is organized in Japan for the first time as part of the 2005/2006 German Year in Japan program of events.
The exhibition will feature more than 80 pieces by some 50 artists from Bauhaus maestros to spirited young artists. It comprises of the four themes of "From Bauhaus to Contemporary Art", "Group Zero", "Minimal/Conceptual" and "Media/Brand/Product/Original", introducing various art movements from the first half of the twentieth century through to contemporary art.
There will be a variety of different "Gallery Tours" offered during the exhibition, along with educational and interactive programs for a range of visitors, from elementary school children to adults, to familiarize them with art and society. It is intended to create a forum in which to consider and discuss such questions as "Why is it art?" and "What are the messages behind the works of art?", by looking into a variety of keywords concerning contemporary art - concepts that are often described as difficult to understand. The exhibition's original workbook will also be distributed free of charge, to all program participants. The workbook includes simple questions about art in general and the exhibits on display.
