Plum in Art
This event has ended.
At Museum of Modern Art, Ibaraki
Media: Painting, Crafts, Ceramics
Plum, endeared to the Japanese as a herald of spring and for its rich aroma, has been a major motif in the literary and figurative arts.
From the Zen priests who valued the plum's spiritual perseverance in its blossoming in winter to its position in the Sho-Chiku-Bai (pine bamboo and plum) as an auspicious theme, Plum has been a timeless subject matter within Japanese art.
This exhibition will feature 70 works, including 5 national important cultural properties, in illustrating the various forms of plum expression.
