Since 1997, the sculpture department of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music has organized biannual exhibitions that question today's sculpture scene. "Skinodelic" is the fifth exhibition of the series.
The title "Skinodelic" is a coined word that combines "psyche" and "skin". Its intention is to reconstruct the way sculptures exist by transferring psyche into skin. Here, the word 'skin' is a metaphor for 'surface'. This exhibition proposes a new vision of sculpture based on this concept.
The participants includes department staff, outside artists Makoto Ito and Tetsuya Namkamura. There will be a sound installation supporting the relationship between sounds and sculpture with the help of Kiyoshi Furukawa from the Inter Media Art Department of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
