With more than 300,000 works, the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg is one of the largest art museums in the world. This exhibition is a selection of 80 oil paintings by 75 European artists that cover 400 years starting with the 15th century.
The overall theme is 'cities, nature and people'. In the world we live in today, the beauty and prosperity of nature is being rediscovered while at the same time the destruction of nature is becoming a serious problem. The widening distance between nature and cities has always been a problem at any point in history, albeit to different degrees. From this viewpoint, this exhibition is divided into three categories: "family scenes", "coexistence of people and nature", and "portraits of cities".
The landscapes that the masters illustrated at various places in various times continue to appeal to us the message of mutual interaction between human beings, and nature.

This exhibition is the fruit of many years of negotiation with the Hermitage Museum. It has been realized as a celebration of Japan-Russian relations.
