The Art + Commerce Festival of Emerging Photographers, begun in 2004, encourages the recognition of the diverse and talented photographers based in the tri-state area whose work has not yet been appreciated by traditional print and exhibition venues. In 2005, photographers not represented by a gallery or an agent for assignment were invited to submit an on-line portfolio of their work.
Upon an open call for entries in the spring of 2005, over 1,100 photographers submitted their work. The submissions were reviewed by members of Art + Commerce and an esteemed jury made up of distinguished professionals, including photographers, editors, book publishers and gallery owners.
The 2005 edition is accompanied by Peek - a 172-page book that includes 150 color images, and introductory essay, biographies of the 24 artists included in this year’s Festival and a discussion with jurors and artists.
